Leaders and Community Gathered to Listen About Forests and the Environment

October 12, 2018

EUGENE, OR – Local elected leaders as well as leaders in Oregon’s business and environmentalist communities came together with UO students and other members of the community to listen to Dr. Patrick Moore’s speech on forests and the environment.

Known as The Sensible Environmentalist, Dr. Patrick Moore has been a leader in the environmental movement for more than 40 years. He is a co-founder of Greenpeace where he served as the Canadian President for nine years and as a Director of Greenpeace International for six years. Today, Dr. Moore is committed to finding solutions to our environmental issues by striking a balance between the needs of people and the need to protect the environment. His environmental policy is based squarely on science and logic.

Oregon is the epicenter of the topic of forestry.  It is the #1 lumber producing state in the nation, and it has more trees today that it had 100 years ago.

The event was titled “Trees are the Answer: Forests and the Environment” and it addressed the economics and science around wood as a renewable source of materials and energy.

The event was co-sponsored by Seneca and The Lundquist College of Business Center for Sustainable Business Practices.
