In 2009, Seneca added to the family of companies with the formation of Seneca Sustainable Energy, LLC. On January 26, 2009, Seneca announced the construction of a cogeneration facility that will generate sufficient electricity to light up 13,000 family homes annually. We began with the classic, ground breaking ceremony.
What was once a quiet field, quickly became a very busy construction site . . .
On February 3, 2011, Seneca Sustainable Energy reached another milestone, when synchronization became complete between the cogeneration facility and the Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB), the purchaser of our electricity. Aaron was on hand to complete the “official switch” during a small ceremony in the control room. This marks our ability to physically move electricity produced by SSE to EWEB’s grid for local consumption. For those serviced by EWEB, just think, the next time you turn on a light, it might be from renewable electricity produced at Seneca.
